Ethics Committee

The Clinical Center Ethics Committee (CCEC) is a standing subcommittee of the Medical Executive Committee. The CCEC has several functions related to bioethics consultation, policy development and revision, and education. Members of the CCEC participate in the Bioethics Consultation Service. The committee as a whole is available for ongoing case consultation, and also participates in retrospective case review. The Medical Executive Committee asks the CCEC to assist in either the initiation or revision of hospital policies of relevance to bioethics. Educational activities are usually undertaken in conjunction with the Department of Bioethics. The CCEC is comprised of about 25 people representing multiple disciplines from the Clinical Center, including physicians, nurses, social workers, clergy, and community members. Members are invited to participate for two-year renewable terms.
