Robert Steel, PhD

Robert Steel, Ph.D., is a philosopher by training whose current work focuses on the ethics of biomedical research. In addition to his role as faculty, Dr. Steel also serves as a liaison between the Clinical Center Department of Bioethics and the Division of AIDS at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Steel was an assistant professor in the Philosophy Department of the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a member of UNO's Medical Humanities faculty (2020-2022), and before that he held postdoctoral positions at the Center for Population-Level Bioethics at Rutgers (2019-2020) and the NIH Bioethics Department (2016-2019). He earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh in 2016.
